On 2/10/97 Gujarat Government formed 6 new districts including Narmada district. Nandod, Dediyapada and Sagbara talukas of Bharuch district and Tilakwada Taluka of Vadodara district formed Narmada District. New Taluka Garudeshwar was formed on 18/02/2014. The District is situated in the eastern corner of Gujarat state. The district now has 5 Talukas and 1 Municipality. Nandod Taluka has 108 villages, Dediyapada Taluka has 133 villages, Sagbara Taluka has 95 villages, Tilakwada Taluka has 97 villages and Garudeshwar Taluka has 94 villages. Narmada District thus has a total of 527 villages and 221 village panchayat. District has total population of 5, 90,279 according to 2011 census.
In Narmada District total 689 Primary School, 53 Secondary School, 23 Higher Secondary School. District has total 4 colleges in that arts, commerce and Science College. District is having another PTC College, B.ed. College, C.P.ed. College, BPE and Women polytechnic college. Total Literacy rate of District is 73.29 %. District has two rivers Karjan and Narmada. Sardar Sarovar Project, Karajan Irrigation project Kakadi Amba and Chopadvav irrigation schemes are some of the important projects in the District. An iconic 182METERS STATUE (Statue of Unity) that’s a tribute to Shri. Sardar Vallabhai patel is to be built at the Sadhu-Bet Island, approximately 3.5kms south of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia. Narmada district is an important tourist destination in Gujarat.
